Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure in which the internal structure of a joint is examined for diagnosis to provide treatment of problems inside the joint. In arthroscopic examination, a small incision is made in the patients skin through which pencil-sized instruments that have a small lens and lighting system (arthroscope) are passed. Arthroscope magnifies and illuminates the structures of the joint with the light that is transmitted through fibre optics. It is attached to a television camera and the interior of the joint is seen on the television monitor.

Total Knee Replacement Surgery

The knee is one of the most complex joints in the entire body which is prone to many injuries and diseases, especially during sports activities. These include bone fractures, tears or damage of the supporting muscles, ligaments and tendons. Severe knee injuries can lead to pain, swelling, stiffness and disability in some cases. An early and thorough diagnosis of the problem goes a long way in providing effective treatment and preventing further damage.

Surgery is usually performed on patients when conservative methods fail to provide relief. It can involve the repair or replacement of arthritic knee joint with artificial metal or plastic replacement parts called the ‘Prostheses’. The surgeries are performed following minimally invasive methods to enhance the outcome and recovery.

Meniscus Surgery

Meniscus tear is the commonest knee injury in athletes and sports men, especially those involved in contact sports. A suddenly bend or twist in your knee causes the meniscus to tear which is traumatic. Elderly people are more prone to degenerative meniscal tears as the cartilage wears out and weakens with age. The two wedge-shape cartilage pieces present between the thighbone and the shinbone are called meniscus. They stabilize the knee joint and act as “shock absorbers”.

Spinal Surgery

Our orthopedic surgeons practice the latest techniques to perform spinal surgery using minimally invasive surgery techniques (MIS) and new implant design and materials. Our orthopedic surgeons are qualified and skilled to perform all kinds of advanced spinal surgery including:

The post-operative recovery period varies based on the surgery. Generally, patients are advised to take up to two weeks off work to recover from any surgery and to resume light duty following resumption of work. Your surgeon will provide specific instructions to follow for a successful recovery.
With just about any orthopedic surgical procedure, including joint replacement surgery and revision surgery (replacing a worn-out artificial joint from a previous surgery), you will experience some pain and swelling. Your doctor and clinical team will work with you to effectively manage your pain and ensure you recover as expected.
Many factors determine how long it will take for you to fully recover and see the benefits of orthopedic surgery. For some patients, recovery takes a few weeks. For others, it can take several months. Depending on your age, your overall health, the condition for which you were treated and the type of surgery performed.

In most cases, you will be discharged on the following day after the surgery or the day after. Physical therapy will maximize the benefits of your surgery. Discuss with your orthopedic surgeon to learn more about what your individual recovery plan.
While the goal of surgery is to restore function and get you moving without pain, there are usually some limitations after orthopedic surgery. Discuss with your orthopedic surgeon about realistic expectations after surgery.
Arthroplasty is the reconstruction or replacement of a joint such as a shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee or ankle. Depending on the extent of the joint injury or condition, you may need partial or total arthroplasty.
Arthroscopic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery that requires only small incisions due to a device known as an arthroscope. It lets your surgeon see inside the body and view the specific area being worked on during surgery without the need for large incisions.
Joint replacement surgery is not applicable on patients who can be treated with non-invasive treatments. During this procedure, the orthopedic surgeon will replace the damaged joint with a prosthesis. These can be ceramic, plastic, or metal. Doctors typically recommend joint replacement surgery in cases of debilitating joint pain and damage where lifestyle changes, physical therapy, and injections don’t work.
A sports doctor focuses on nonoperative and nonsurgical treatments of sports-related conditions and injuries. Sports medicine surgeons (or orthopedic surgeons that specialize in sports medicine) focus on nonoperative, nonsurgical and surgical treatments.
Orthopedic injections can be used for relief from pain, stiffness, and inflammation. Some common conditions they treat include arthritis, nerve pain, and tendonitis.
